The Visconti Rembrandt is a wonderful tribute to Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn, one of the most famous painters during the Dutch Golden Age in the 1600s. The Visconti Rembrandt is manufactured in Florence Italy, so you know this is a quality product. The fountain pen comes packaged in an exquisite leatherette box with piston converter and ink cartridge included. The Rembrandt accepts the included piston converter or a standard international cartridge, so you have options depending on your preference.
The Visconti Rembrandt is luxurious and the Rembrandt's ergonomics make it enjoyable to write with. The material used for the barrel of the Rembrandt is variegated resin, which mimics Rembrandt's chiaroscuro painting style. The pen comes in multiple colors: black, blue, ivory, purple and red. The Rembrandt's first distinctive feature is the magnetic cap. The magnetic cap is one of the best I've seen to date, as it is not difficult to remove and snaps shut securely to prevent drying out or damage to the nib. The chrome grip on the Rembrandt sits well in the hand with little slippage. I also enjoy that the grip is not threaded, so it doesn't irritate fingers when writing for long periods. The second distinctive feature is the ability to personalize the Rembrandt with initials or other designs on the cap (see picture below).
At about 34g, the weight is quite comfortable; however, it tends to be weighted more toward the nib. The nib is stainless steel and stamped with the Visconti logo. I tested the Visconti Rembrandt using Pelikan 4001 ink and the nib was quite smooth; however, I'm sure the experience will be better with a "wet" ink. The Visconti Rembrandt's nib is quite stiff, although you can still achieve minor line variations. The available nib sizes are Fine, Medium, and Broad.
Although the Rembrandt is Visconti's most inexpensive fountain pen, it still measures up with some of the more expensive fountain pens in their lineup. I would like to see a gold nib on this pen; however, at this price point, I understand why it is not included. The Visconti Rembrandt is great for those who desire a luxury fountain pen but are on a budget.
